Now available at $16.50 for members ($22.00 for non-members) is a reprint of the fourth edition of the APA’s An Introduction to Australian Book Publishing, with updates throughout.
An initiative of the Independent Publishers Committee, and edited by convenor Richard Smart, it is not only an ideal introduction to the industry for newcomers or those thinking of making it their career, but also an opportunity for old hands to brush up, particularly on the new technology.
The 80-page book opens with a Foreword on writer/publisher relationships by Tom Keneally, and is followed by sixteen chapters tracing a book's progress from creation to the bookshops, via copyright, contracts, export, finance, online publishing and websites.
There are also first-person profiles from eighteen publishers from a wide range of companies of all sizes, as well as a very useful glossary and a list of related associations.
