About the opportunity

We are actively seeking a talented and experienced publisher to join our team. In this role, you will utilise your publishing skills and experience to develop market-leading products, whilst working in a flexible and accommodating workplace. You will be responsible for researching, commmissioning, and developing new resources as well as maintaining our backlist. You will work closely with teachers, authors and our team to ensure the vision of our publishing plan is developed, market-tested and delivered to teachers and students locally and internationally.

What you will get to do

  • Manage the development of a variety of educational products from proposal to print, working closely with our editorial manager and freelance product team throughout the production phase.
  • Work with established authors, and commission new talent.
  • Collaborate with teachers and consultants to develop effective resources that will boost student outcomes.
  • Advise and support marketing by writing and reviewing copy, instilling brand values and voice.
  • Collaborate with another Publisher - share ideas, support one another's workloads, provide a critical eye and second opinion on one another's projects.
  • Keep up to date on latest research and developments in literacy best practice.
  • Plan and deliver short and long-term products aligned with business goals.
  • Collaborate with Digital Product Manager, as required.

Our mission is to provide teachers and parents with the tools they need to teach children to read, write and spell with confidence. Skills and experiences we value

  • Minimum 5 years of previous primary educational publishing experience and proven track record of commercial success 
  • Experience in executing complex projects from conception to completion.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and an ability to prioritise workload. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills -you will be a team player with the ability to lead through values and make considered decisions.
  • Initiative to investigate the cause of problems and identify effective, logical and practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), literacy and command of English. 
  • Classroom experience and/or knowledge of synthetic phonics and recent literacy research (desirable).

Important things to know

  • This role is advertised as a Fixed Term Contract of 12 months with options to extend, or transfer to permanent dependent on market conditions and team requirements. Freelance publishers are welcome to get in touch if they have capacity to support us for at least 6 months part-time.
  • This job is advertised as a full or part-time role. We are proud to be able to offer a flexible working environment. Our ideal candidate would be able to commit at least 3 days per week.
