Open Book: Australian Publishing Internship

Supported by the APA and our members, the Open Book: Australian Publishing Internship aims to foster cultural diversity in the Australian publishing industry, and provide a well-rounded introduction to the industry.

ABDA baseline

ABDA Baseline: Book Design Internship

The Australian Book Designers Association has established the ABDA ‘Baseline’ Book Design Internship, a new paid opportunity aimed at fostering cultural diversity in the Australian book design community and training the next generation of Australian book designers.

Hachette Summer Internship

The annual Hachette Australia Summer Internship Program provides both a broad understanding of the trade publishing business and a deep dive into how the various departments within a commercial publishing house work together to take books into the hands of readers.

Writing NSW Editorial Internship

This editorial internship program from Writing NSW is presented in partnership with publishers Giramondo, Hachette and Pan Macmillan, along with Diversity Arts. It is designed to help the emerging editors take the first steps in a publishing career with the aim of increasing cultural diversity in the publishing industry.

black&write! Editing Internships

The  black&write! Editing Internships recruit, train and mentor Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander editors. Interns get hands-on editing experience while working on the winning black&write! Fellowship manuscripts.

Hachette Australia publishing traineeship

Hachette Australia and Media Diversity Australia (MDA) have launched a publishing traineeship, aimed at championing diversity and inclusivity within the publishing industry.

The Hachette x MDA Publishing Traineeship offers a two-year entry-level position for a candidate sourced through MDA’s TalentHub. The Traineeship includes full-time employment at Hachette, paired with mentorship from senior Hachette staff and external mentors provided by MDA. The role offered will vary every two years, commencing in 2024 with a Publishing Assistant position.
